About Special Therapies, Inc.

Special Therapies, Inc. was developed by Susan Vaughan Kratz, OT, CST-D in 1994. Starting out in a rented schoolhouse, we grew into a nationally recognized developmental and sensory integration practice. Currently, our practice focuses on bodywork and manual therapies. The clinic offers an eclectic style of intervention. With strong backgrounds in pediatric and adult neuro-rehabilitation, neuro-developmental treatment, sensory integration, and craniosacral therapy, Special Therapies shapes its practice model around sound scientific support and evidence-based formats. We work consistently to stay abreast of current theories, approaches, and best practices. Primary referral sources have been word-of-mouth based upon clinical outcomes.

Please Note: Special Therapies does not accept insurance assignment, therefore we request payment at the time of service. We are not a Medicare or Medicaid provider. We are out-of-network for all private insurance carriers but will file insurance claims as a courtesy if requested.

CranioSacral

Therapy

A gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity.

Lymphatic

Drainage

A form of gentle massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from body tissues.

Visceral

Manipulation

A gentle manual technique involving specific placement of soft manual forces to encourage the normal mobility, tone, and motion of the viscera (internal organs) and the connective tissue and ligaments that support each organ onto our skeleton.

Sensory

Integration

A child directed therapy approach that first detects which of the 7 sensory systems is faulty in processing information. Therapy activities are then individually designed to assist in actively increasing the brain’s awareness and ability to respond appropriately.

Neuro Developmental

Therapy

A hands‐on, client‐centered approach that seeks to improve gross motor function in children and adults with neurological problems (such as cerebral palsy), and thereby improve their independence in a variety of contexts.
