 Articulation
Articulation
is the use of the articulators (lips, tongue, etc) to produce
speech sounds. Accurate articulation also requires exact placement,
sequencing, timing, and force of the articulators.
An
articulation disorder can be organic (a known physical cause)
or functional (no known physical cause). In either case, a client
does not produce speech sounds correctly. Articulation errors
may occur at the sound, word, phrase, sentence, or conversational
speech level.
Therapy
targets each individual speech sound in a hierarchical structure.
The client is taught how to use his/her articulators to produce
the speech sound.
