and/or use of spoken language (spoken, written, or other symbol
system).

Language Disorder- an impairment in the use of spoken language
Receptive
Language Disorder- an impairment in the comprehension/understanding
of spoken language

A
language delay is when language develops at a slower than average
rate of development.

Language disorder/delay may involve one or more of the following
components of language:
• morphology-
the rules for change in meaning at the word level
• syntax-
rule system for combining words in phrases and sentences
• phonology
- the rules for the formation of speech sounds and how speech
sounds are joined together into words
• semantics-
the rules for meanings of words and their relationship to one
another
• pragmatics
- the rules that govern the use of language in social contexts
and for the purpose of communication
