Neuro
Developmental Therapy (NDT)
Movement
control problems, as in the case of cerebral palsy and other
neurolgoical disorders, often require working to improve
active control of rotation of the trunk. Therapists learn
many ways to help this develop. (Big balls were in therapy
gyms long before making their way into health clubs.)
Based
on decades of treatment that has evolved from the work of
Dr. Karl and Berta Bobath, this approach can assist the
person in producing normal movements that are absent.
The
most common condition that Neuro Developmental Therapy is
recognized for is Cerebral Palsy and other brain injuries.
However, this therapy technique has evolved into a general
approach for many other movement issues.
It
is a hands-on method used by physical therapist, occupational
therapists, and speech-language pathologists as a method
to control spasticity, increase range of motion, and improve
coordination.

Neuro Developmental Therapy techniques work to guide abnormal
movement and posture towards more normal patterns |
