 Phonological
Disorders
Phonology
is the sound system of language. A phonological disorder occurs
when a child's speech errors fall into different patterns, or
phonological processes. These are generally patterns children
use to simplify adult language. For example, a child might delete
all final consonants (i.e "ha" for "hat",
"da" for "dog", etc) or reduce consonant clusters
(i.e. "poon" for "spoon" or "pane"
for "plane", etc.)
Therapy
targets the phonological processes, not individual speech
sounds through a structured approach of auditory training (listening)
and speech production. |
